On August 25, 2026, Mr. Didier Sèyivè ZINSOU, Director of the Niger Basin Observatory and Acting Executive Secretary of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA), received a delegation from the Coordination Unit of the Regional Program for Integrated Development of the Fouta Djallon Highland (PRAI-MFD), conducted by Mr. Janvier BAZOUN, expert in charge of the Regional Observatory for Natural Resources and Climate (ORRNC) of the Fouta Djallon, and Mr. Geofroy DETRY, a database expert in charge of designing the Observatory’s geoportal. The Director of the Niger Basin Observatory was accompanied by Mr. Ibro ADAMOU, Director of Planning and Sustainable Development; Ms. Nana Aichatou SALISSOU MAIGARI, Technical Advisor for GIZ Support to the NBA; and NBA experts.

The discussions covered :
- presentation of the Fouta Djallon Regional Observatory for Natural Resources and Climate;
- presentation on the study and design of the Fouta Djallon Observatory’s Geoportal;
- presentation on the NBA’s information systems;
- Sharing of existing documentation on indicators, data, and information that could contribute to the implementation of the information system and the development of the Fouta Djallon Observatory’s Geoportal;
- Potential areas of collaboration between the two regional institutions.

The overall objective of the MFD consultant’s mission is to carry out the preliminary studies required for the development and operationalization of a geoportal for monitoring, evaluation, and environmental surveillance of the natural resources of the Fouta Djallon highland

This working visit provided an opportunity to present the ORRNC-MFD initiative and to discuss with the NBA its contribution to the future regional framework, particularly in terms of indicators, data, and system interoperability.

It also marked the begining of a collaboration between the Niger Basin Observatory and the Fouta Djallon Observatory.
